CHRISTIAN POEMS FOR CONTENTMENT

Poems of Contentment

Handiwork
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:3

Let there be light, the voice rang out
Each word precisely spoken
To bring on earth
Things having worth
Henceforth to be a token.

Each plant and tree, some bearing fruit
Regarded well for pleasure
Enjoyed by all
Before the fall
Ere man had lost his treasure.

Like everyone we have a choice
Inherent in our being
God knows our state
His plan is great:
The goal He’s ever seeing.

Consecration
I am the door of the sheep.
John 10:7

Invincible, God knows our ways
Although they are unseemly
Make no mistake
That in their wake
He has a plan supremely.

Ensuring that we all should be
Determined by election
Objectively
Of high degree
Reflecting our connection.

Of all the sheep that know His name
For they have heard His calling
They will be found
Handsomely sound
Endued with joy enthralling.

Sheep everywhere are in His care
He leads them into meadows
Ensuring all
Enjoy His call
Perfect with no more shadows.

Culmination
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17

Rejoice, again I say rejoice
Exult in life abounding
Jesus the Lord
Our safe abode
In Him our holy grounding.

Come everyone unto the Son
Enlist with grace preceding
Etched on your name
Viewed no more lame
Enriched with joy exceeding.

Rest in the place secure by grace
Made perfect through affliction
Ovation brings
Refreshing springs
Events with no restriction.

Discipleship
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp to my feet
Highlighting my path and my way
Young men that we see on the street
Will one day be older and grey.

Our verse that we see in the psalm
Reminds us how needful we are
Demonic devices may harm
Indeed they exceed us by far.

Sufficient is Jesus our Lord
As any believer has found
Lean onto His provable word
And then hold your Calvary ground.

Moreover the psalmist has sworn
Performing Thy judgments he’ll keep
Unsettled, his faith has not worn
Nor lapsed into spiritual sleep.

This psalm just like any we read
Obtains for us guidance within
Mid all of the pathways we tread
Yield ever their tempting to sin.

For those who have trusted the Word
Electing to follow His path
Events will at last bring reward
The blood of His Cross, not His wrath.

Prevision
Praise ye the LORD,
O give thanks unto the LORD;
for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalm 106:1

Praise the LORD for all His goodness
Reaching out to every soul
All-providing
In His chiding
Some good thing to make us whole.

Every mercy poured upon us
Year by year or day by day
Each intrusion
Takes confusion
Heaven’s balm thus takes away.

Endless days are set before us
Life and death each in its place
Only Jesus
Rates and sees us
Dedicating love and grace.

The Refrain
O, come let us sing unto the Lord: let us make
a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1

O, come let us sing with rejoicing
Come all ye who worship the King
On string instrument
Make glad His descent
Extending His love like the spring.

Let’s watch for His joyful appearing
Each day as we walk in the light
The glory to be
Upholding and free
Steadfast in our resolute fight.

Show forth your distinctive resources
In line with your membership role
Noteworthy and true
Gifts all they endue
Uniquely yet part of the whole.

Nowhere do we find One so worthy
The Saviour who suffered alone
Our judgment He bore
The shame that He wore
Heartrending as no one has known.

Elected to go through the furnace
Life-giving as only He could
One day we shall find
Renewed peace of mind
Defined on the path we have stood.

Solace
Let not your heart be troubled:
ye believe in God, believe also in  me.
John 14:1

Do we have trouble or sorrows?
Every day has its due share
Let them not be
Big as a tree
Union with Christ is our care.

Over our life there is Someone
Ready to meet every need
Take it to Him
Even a whim
Blends to a suitable deed.

Take note how Jesus responded
Reading the minds of His sheep
Always alert
Each every hurt
He had them all in His keep.

Rest in His love everlasting
Under His care there is peace
Often through pains
Yearning remains
Till our anxieties cease.

Oh, if we simply would trust Him
Nothing could stand in our way
Trials and care
Empty their share
Left with our Lord every day.

Distractions
Love not the world,
neither the things that are in the world.
If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 2:15

Distractions are always among us
Let no one think they are immune
Reports that we heed
Of word or of deed
Will often be well out of tune.

Evading the issue is common
Hard subjects are not to the fore
The trivial views
Translated as news
Obliquely are passed on as lore.

New words are now deftly invented
Encasing a track or a trend
Viewpoints are askew
On things that are true
Lawmakers have gone round the bend.

Morals
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.
Revelation 22:17

Earnestly the Lord is speaking
More intent as time moves on
Our endeavours
Chains or severs
Yesterday where time has gone.

As we hear the voice of conscience
Speaking to us from within
Ease or friction
Draws conviction
In the sphere of guilt or sin.

Regular the voice reminds us
Bringing up a moral view
Empty greetings
Hollow meetings
Talks of love that seem untrue.

Do we ever stop to listen
Not accepting what is said
Any token
That is spoken
Indicates we may be dead.

Resolutions well intended
Insofar as they impress
Place a measure
Sense or pleasure
Estimating their success.

Here we come to our conclusion
Time is given here in turn
Don’t refuse it
Nor abuse it
Always seek the truth to learn.

Imprecations
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name:
ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
John 16:24

Ask oft and your quest shall be given
Seek out and you surely will find
Keep on with your questing
And what you’re investing
No sooner will be in your mind.

Do not be neglecting vocations
You are well inducted to serve
Each true conversation
Should further your station
Helped also by spiritual verve.

Always be a person forgiving
Lay not up your treasure on earth
Let not one reproval
Result in removal
Embrace what you have from your birth.

Call up as you pray for the brethren
Entreat for the souls who are weak
Implicit requesting
Vibrates with the testing
Endorsing each quest that we seek.

Carefree
Casting all your care upon him;
for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7

Cast your cares on Christ the Lord
Always He is near us
Sensing our respective needs
Trustful as He intercedes
Immanent to cheer us.

Never should we hesitate
Guilt is our exposure
Any trouble that we meet
Let us lay it at His feet
Lacking no composure.

Yearnings will not go away
Often they go deeper
Under grace our faith abides
Rendered safe in rising tides
Counted not a sleeper.

After all is said and done
Resting is our portion
Even if the day is long
Under grace we have a song
Practised with due caution.

Overtures of praise arise
Nature too rejoices
Hymns that speak of Paradise
Into bright and sunlit skies
Mingled with our voices.

Deliverance
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised:
so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
Psalm 18:3

I called upon the LORD
When everything was floored
In time of shock
Look to the Rock
Let balance be restored.

Can any person see
A greater One than He
Lasting and sure
Love with its cure
Untied the knot for me.

Perhaps there is a case
Our brothers have to face
Near close of time
The minutes climb
Held back by saving grace.

Eruptions soon display
Lax postures are astray
Off-balance souls
Require new goals
Declared for all today.

Homage
Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17

Praises and prayer
Ring through the air
Angels are watching intensely
Yonder we’ll meet
Wonders replete
In our new homeland immensely.

Thankful and true
Hope rings anew
Onward we go with endeavour
Unto our Friend
There at the end
Christ our Redeemer forever.

Endless the sight
All bathed in light
Such is the vision of glory
In this pure scene
Nothing unclean
Gives any taint to the story.

Happiness
Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart
Lasting and pervasive
Enterprises far and near
Simple work that we endear
Satisfies a conscience clear
Earnestly persuasive.

Diligence in all we do
Advertise our leaning
Realizing what we are
Excelled in our repertoire
Trusting God our Rising Star
Honours Him with meaning.

Each has got a life to live
Privately or travel
Under any circumstance
Rigorous or hard perchance
Even roles we might enhance
If they should unravel.

Now returning to our text
Holiness defending
Elemental is the goal
Always building up the soul
Relishing our given role
Trophies without ending.

The Gift
Fight the good fight of faith,
lay hold on eternal life,
1 Timothy 6:12

Lay hold on life eternal
Accept God’s precious gift
Your days are few
Held overdue
Old habits leave a rift.

Look unto Christ the Saviour
Despised by those He bought
Our hopes reside
Near to His side
Expectant not distraught.

The message of salvation
Exposes every need
Responsive souls
Not having goals
Are granted life indeed.

Let this be our objective
Lest all we do is vain
Immortal life
Fends off the strife
Eternal joy the gain.
